Youth Empowerment through Sport
History of the program
The genesis of the YES project began when the former ACCSDP coordinator Miss Judy Myers introduced the sport education model to the Trinidad and Tobago Ministry of Education Physical Education curriculum unit. Two of TTASPE's founding members were involved in the workshops that followed and they immediately recognized the potential of the model in making positive changes in the lives of the nation's youth.
Upon the formation of TTASPE in 2002 one of its first projects was YES and a workshop was coordinated by Miss Myers and the participants were the officers of the physical training instructors unit of the Trinidad and Tobago Regiment. The PTI officers, in conjunction with physical education teachers in a few secondary schools conducted the program and reported a significant level of success
In 2004 TTASPE decided to revisit the YES program and included new aspects as well as updated the manual that accompanies the program. From the 1st to the 4th of June 2004, TTASPE in collaboration with the Ministry of Education Guidance Unit (now called the School Support Services unit), conducted a YES workshop, after which back to back 3 week camps were held at five different centers in Trinidad. TTASPE conducted a YES workshop in Tobago shortly after under the auspices of the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) Education Department. Back to back camps were also held there.

El Dorado Youth Camp YES workshop
Workshops were also held at the El Dorado Youth Camp in 2005 and in 2006 at the Youth Training Center for young offenders. TTASPE is committed to providing training for interested individuals and organizations that are willing to use this research based program for empowering our young people.
