Youth Empowerment through Sport
Overview
Youth Empowerment through Sport (YES), deliberately seeks to provide opportunities for young people to take on roles and responsibilities that they can then transfer to their everyday life.
Youth Empowerment through sport (YES) is based on Daryl Sidentop's Sport Education curriculum model. This model has been found to be very effective in helping the target population (12-17 years) to learn to accept responsibilities and to develop healthy social attitudes by engaging in authentic sport experiences.
The program is designed in such a way that participants :
- Identify roles within their team and the camp.
- Are empowered or helped in developing the skills needed to carry out their particular duties.
- Are encouraged to perform their tasks to the best of their abilities
- Are trained to reflect on their performances
Other concepts that are included is Hellison's Teaching Personal and Social Responsibility Model, anger management and conflict resolution.
