BUILDING BRIDGES

Dr. Alexis Lyras

Dr Lyras explained that he is very keen on working with the Trinidad and Tobago alliance for Sport and Physical Education (TTASPE) since, in his words, “I am happy to be here working with like-minded people who share this passion for sport – people who realize sport’s great potential to transform the lives of individuals and communities. There is a wealth of knowledge, expertise and passion in every individual I interacted with, I strongly believe that Trinidad and Tobago – especially TTASPE – can become a pioneer in sport for development which is a new concept.

Dr Alexis Lyras

We have seen the evidence of sport to ably deal with issues of conflict resolution – its power to transform tension into creative action. We need to document this evidence; it is not enough to say that sport can do this or that, but we need to measure what we are doing in sport and this is why I am here. I was priveledged to be invited to attend the ‘First ICHPER SD Regional Caribbean Congress & Exposition’ here in Trinidad and I cannot tell you what an enlightening experience it was for me – the commitment here is nothing short of amazing!” I want to share my vision and I want to learn. I was very impressed with the level of commitment and the higher vision of sport here at TTASPE and UTT. I look forward to a great partnership here in the Caribbean.
